Why should I secure my Bitcoin fireproof?

Why should I secure my Bitcoin fireproof?

Many people probably ask themselves this question. But I think: If Bitcoin already gives you the ability to manage your own assets, you should really do it. “Self-custody” means actually owning your Bitcoin - not leaving it on an exchange, a bank, or an insecure software wallet.

What’s the point of using the hardest money in the world to secure your lifetime if you don’t truly control it? A wallet on your phone or an exchange can be hacked, devices can break or get lost. Banks can go bankrupt or suddenly deny access. Then you sit there, having worked hard for years - and you can’t access your Bitcoin anymore.

Imagine if you wrote your Bitcoin down on paper: A house fire, water damage, or even a small accident with a coffecup - all gone. Your lifetime savings, your hard-earned wealth, simply destroyed. And that’s exactly why you need to secure your Bitcoin physically and fireproof.

Bitcoin offers, for the first time in human history, the possibility to pass your lifetime savings to the next generation, potentially across many generations. Unlike fiat money or gold, Bitcoin is hardly affected by inflation and becomes even stronger when attacked due to its robust, antifragile network.

The biggest weakness is the human - or your own wallet. That’s why you should:

- Use a hardware wallet, not a software wallet

- Generate your wallet offline

- Buy your wallet anonymously, so no one knows you own Bitcoin

Of course, there are still more steps to consider, such as buying Bitcoin anonymously or securely hiding the seed phrase. But for now, let's stick to these steps.

The next step is secure storage. There are different ways to do this, but the easiest and most effective method is to store your seed phrases in fireproof metal. Paper, USB sticks, or other media are too vulnerable - fire, water, or chemicals can destroy everything.

This is where the Bitpen comes in. With it, you can quickly, easily, and fireproof engrave your seed phrases - like writing with a pen on paper, but permanently in metal. In less than five minutes, a wallet is secured. No tedious hammering with metal stamps, no hours of effort - just test it, start, done.

You can further protect your wallet against tampering, e.g., with a metal seal that shows if someone tried to access it. The seal can also be marked with the Bitpen, making it even more secure.

Materials you can choose from:

- Stainless steel, very robust and fireproof

- Titanium, even more resistant to heat and environmental influences

- Flexible titanium foil, for a thinner but still relatively fireproof option

Imagine this: A fire breaks out, water floods your home, or a storm damages the roof. Paper or digital media wouldn’t survive. Stainless steel or titanium withstand heat, moisture, and other hazards very well - and your Bitcoin is much more likely to survive.

For me, this was always a hurdle. I originally wanted to use a hammer and metal stamps - it takes forever, mistakes happen, and it’s just exhausting. That’s why I developed the Bitpen: a fast, secure, and simple way to permanently secure Bitcoin.

With the Bitpen, you can secure two wallets in just a few minutes and sleep peacefully, without worrying about your wallet being damaged. Of course, you still need to hide your wallet well - that will be covered in another blog post.

If you like my solution and want to secure your Bitcoin super fast, super safe, and fireproof, check out my Bitpen set.

Thanks for reading and Hodl!
